Early elections to the Iraqi House of Representatives are scheduled for June 6, 2021. This was announced by Prime Minister Mustafa al-Qasimi.
“I declare June 6, 2021 as the date of early parliamentary elections, and we will do everything to ensure that they are successful and transparent,” he said.
The holding of early general elections, which include elections to parliament and the subsequent appointment of the country’s president, was one of the main demands of the protesters during the mass riots and unrest in the country since October 2019, and the authorities promised to fulfill it.
