Israeli police detained 16 rioters on Friday night during a mass protest outside the residence of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem. This was reported by State Radio Kan.
According to the radio station, the arrests were carried out “on suspicion of disturbing public order, attacks on police officers and demonstrators. Eight of the detainees are fans of the well-known right-wing group of fans of the Jerusalem football club Beitar La Familia, according to Kan, pointing out that they are suspected of, among other things, attacking the film crews of two Israeli TV channels.
Up to 1,500 people took part in the protest in Jerusalem, and several hundred more gathered on Friday night outside the house of Israeli Interior Minister Omir Ohana in downtown Tel Aviv, according to the radio station.
Demonstrations in front of the Prime Minister’s residence have not stopped since mid-July. Protesters are demanding the resignation of the government amid a crisis in the country caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
