There was a telephone conversation between the Minister of Transport of the Republic of Eduardo Rodriguez and the Minister of Transport of Russia Eugene Dietrich.
This was reported on Thursday on the website of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic.
“A [telephone] conversation took place between the Minister of Transport of the Republic of Cuba Eduardo Rodríguez and the Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Evgeny Dietrich, they exchanged views on the state of economic cooperation in the aviation and railroad spheres, development of sea ports infrastructure, as well as training of personnel in various spheres of transport. In June 2017, Russian Railways International (a subsidiary of Russian Railways) and the Union of Railways of Cuba signed a contract agreement on a project to restore and modernize railway infrastructure on the island. Possible sources of financing include loans from Russian banks and a special account to which payments are made to repay Havana’s debt to Moscow.
In February this year, representatives of the transport departments of Russia and Cuba discussed the participation of Russian companies in the modernization of the island’s ports during the III Meeting of the Joint Maritime Transport Commission. As the Russian Trade Mission in Havana told, the topics of discussion of the representatives of transport departments were also training of Cuban specialists in specialized Russian universities and the possibility of supplying Russian vessels of various types to Cuba.
