Donald Trump was the politician who fully supported Brexit. This approach made the United States a “safe haven” for the United Kingdom. Now London officials are looking forward to the grim prospect of having to deal with Joe Biden.
The American edition “The New York Times” writes about it.
As noted in the media, Britain was one of those countries that tried in every possible way to please Trump. The approach was understandable, because it was the possibility of a lucrative trade deal with the United States that gave the current British Prime Minister Boris Johnson an advantage during last year’s elections. Thus, if Berlin or Paris breathes a sigh of relief in the event of the victory of the elderly Democrat Joe Biden, then in London everything is not so simple.
Even Barack Obama, as President of the United States, warned Britain that the United States would push it “into the background” of any trade relationship. Biden, if he wins, will also oppose Brexit and side with the European Union, not giving a damn about the Anglo-American trade deal.
The concern of London officials is exacerbated by the fact that Biden’s campaign headquarters has banned any contact with foreign governments. Such measures were resorted to so that the Democrat would not be accused of having ties with them, as was the case with Trump in 2016.
At the same time, the expert community believes that Britain will not face a sharp deterioration in relations, but with a gradual decrease in its importance.
