EU prolongs sanctions against DPRK for one year

Restrictive measures against listed individuals and entities include a travel ban and assets freeze.

The EU extended its restrictive measures against DPRK for a year. This was announced on Thursday by the EU Council.

“The Council today approved the list of individuals and entities subject to autonomous EU sanctions against the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. Existing restrictive measures (travel ban and assets freeze) imposed on listed individuals and entities will continue for one year until the next annual review”, –  the Council said in a statement.

North Korea is subject to the harshest sanctions regime to date. Resolution 2397, adopted by the UN Security Council, provides for restrictions on the supply of oil and petroleum products to the country, as well as requires other States to expel all North Korean workers from their territory by the end of 2019. The reason was Pyongyang’s continued development of ballistic missiles as well as nuclear weapons.
