China has protested to the EU for sanctions against Hong Kong in connection with the national security law

Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said that “no country has the right to interfere in Hong Kong affairs because it is part of China”.

The Chinese authorities consider the new EU restrictive measures against Hong Kong following the adoption of the law on ensuring national security in this special administrative region as a direct interference in China’s internal affairs and strongly protest. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said on Wednesday.

“No country has the right to interfere in Hong Kong’s affairs because it’s part of China. Appropriate measures of the European Union should be considered a violation of fundamental norms of diplomacy and international law”, –  he stressed at a regular briefing. – “The Chinese side expresses its strong protest in this regard.”

According to Wenbin, Beijing has already made a serious presentation to the European side in this regard. He added that the new law on national security “will have a positive impact on foreign enterprises in Hong Kong.

On Tuesday, the EU Council said that the EU had decided to respond to the national security law in Hong Kong, including limiting exports of technology that “can be used for harassment or mass surveillance”. In addition, the European side “will consider the implications for asylum, migration, visa and residence policies.
