Armenian Defense Minister David Tonoyan at a meeting on Wednesday with French Ambassador to Yerevan Jonathan Lakot noted the importance of preventing provocations in the immediate vicinity of the Armenian borders during the Azerbaijani-Turkish military exercises, the press service of the Defense Ministry reported.
Earlier, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry announced the holding of joint large-scale tactical and flight-tactical exercises with live firing with Turkey from July 29 to August 10, with the participation of the ground forces and air forces of both countries.
“During the meeting with Lakot, Tonoyan, referring to the Turkish-Azerbaijani joint military exercises, noted that from a purely military point of view, their tactical nature does not cause concern, but it is important that the exercises do not develop into provocative actions in the immediate vicinity of the borders, defensive structures and other infrastructures of Armenia”, – the message received at the disposal of RIA Novosti says.
According to the press service, the Minister of Defense stressed that the Armenian side is closely following the course of the exercises and further processes.
Speaking about the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and the contact line between Karabakh and Azerbaijan, the minister noted the important role in defusing tension and continuing the negotiation process of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs – Russia, the United States and, in particular, France, as a member of the UN Security Council, EU and NATO, the message says.
