Two migrants from Sudan, detained at sea and brought to the Libyan town of Homs, were killed and five were injured as a result of shooting by local authorities, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) reports.
“The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) in Homs reported that local authorities fired shots when the migrants tried to leave the landing site”, – the organisation said.
According to the IOM statement, the organization “considers Libya an unsafe port and reiterates its call on the EU and the international community to take immediate action to stop the return of vulnerable groups to Libya.
In Libya, confrontation continues between the Government of National Accord (GNC) of Fayez Sarraj, which controls Tripoli and territories in the west, and the Libyan National Army (LNA), under the command of Marshal Khalifa Haftar, which cooperates with the parliament in the east. The NTC supports Turkey, and the LNA supports Egypt.
The armed conflict in Syria has continued since 2011. At the end of 2017, the victory over the terrorist group IG (“Islamic State”)* in Syria and Iraq was announced.
