In Austria, they told how Crimea returned to Russia “thanks” to Europe and the Maidan

The short-sighted support of the West for nationalists on the Maidan ultimately led to the fact that the inhabitants of Crimea realized that they were not on their way with the new Ukraine and it was time to return home.

In Austria, they told how Crimea returned to Russia "thanks" to Europe and the Maidan

According to the Utro.ru portal, Austrian political scientist and publicist Marco Mayer told Contra Magazin that he is convinced that Russia and Europe should not be enemies, and the current Russophobic narrative is being imposed by politicians with interests in the United States.

“It was the West that supported the coup in Ukraine and the coming to power of the nationalists. As a result, the genocide against the Russians living on the peninsula led to the separation of the region and its return to Russia. For the same reason, Donbass began to confront Kiev, ”the expert said.

According to Mayer, it was naive to hope that Russia would look indifferently at NATO’s attempts to create a military base in Crimea, on the implementation of such a scenario after the victory of the “Maidan”, as a result, many informed politicians both in Ukraine itself and in the West said.

The Austrian political scientist concludes that it was the actions of the European states that in many ways pushed the Crimean Republic to reunification with Russia.
