Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called Russian leader Vladimir Putin, according to the Office of the President of Ukraine.
During the conversation, politicians positively assessed the agreement by the Contact Group of additional ceasefire measures in the Donbass from 00:01 on July 27. In addition, the parties discussed other aspects of the settlement of the internal Ukrainian conflict.
Vladimir Putin also stressed the priority of implementing the decisions that were made by the leaders of the Normandy Four during the Paris summit in December 2019.
Also, Vladimir Putin characterized the resolution adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on July 15 to hold local elections in 2020 as contrary to the Minsk agreements and endangering the prospects for a settlement. In addition, serious concern was expressed in connection with the recent statements of high-ranking officials of Ukraine about the unacceptability of a number of provisions of the “Package of Measures” and the need to revise it. The President of Russia emphasized that the position, once again voiced by Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the current telephone conversation, that there is no alternative to the Minsk agreements, should be confirmed in the real actions of the Kiev authorities.
In addition, the presidents exchanged views on the situation around the coronavirus pandemic.
It should be noted that the call was initiated by the Ukrainian side.
