The United States has rejected Russia’s idea of banning weapons in space and is promoting its interests

The US administration expects to establish its own rules for outer space as the arms race unfolds beyond Earth.

This was announced by the US Assistant Secretary of State for International Security Christopher Ford.

In particular, he noted that American diplomats will promote the concept in negotiations with Russian representatives in Vienna next week.

The set of rules for activities in space, according to the official, will be similar to the rules of work in cyberspace.

“My suggestion is that we may be able to work out and negotiate certain rules regarding space to ensure stability”, – says Ford.

It is noteworthy that Moscow, together with Beijing, have already proposed the concept of a space agreement, which would imply a ban on the deployment of weapons outside the planet. Washington did not want to deprive themselves of this opportunity, so the idea was rejected. Ford himself called this approach too “traditional”.

At the same time, he suggested using the method of interaction during the Cold War to resolve conflict situations. We are talking about the military channel of communication, which, as the spokesman for the State Department notes, “will allow talking about potential problems that may appear in space”.
