Earlier, about eighteen police officers were injured in American Chicago, protecting the monument to sailor Christopher Columbus (1451-1506) from protesters against racism.
“Columbus was a killer, Columbus was a thief,” the crowd chanted at the time.
Although the monument was then defended, the protesters left inscriptions on it.
Slogans such as Black Lives Matter and the call for the “decolonisation” of Chicago appeared on the statue.
