Pompeo believes that the American media is influenced by “Chinese propaganda”

The U.S. Secretary of State is dissatisfied with the publications in the U.S. press, the authors of which are “alien to the American way of life.”

U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo expressed concern that the U.S. media is subject to the influence of “Chinese propaganda”. The chief of U.S. diplomacy focused on this, answering questions following his speech Thursday at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library in California.

“I am also concerned about the American media”, –  Pompeo said. –  “American [information] organizations are picking up these lines and actually spreading Chinese propaganda further”, –  he explained.

The Secretary of State also expressed dissatisfaction with the appearance of publications and comments in the U.S. press, the authors of which, in his view, are “alien to the American way of life.

The Wall Street Journal in June published an article authored by experts from the Washington Center for Strategic and International Studies, Jude Blanchett and Seth Jones. They expressed confidence that the U.S. is losing the information war to China, including with regard to the origin and consequences of a new type of coronavirus. The experts, in particular, drew attention to the fact that the majority of Americans are forced to form their view of China on the basis of what the leadership of that country decides to translate into English.

Confrontation between Beijing and Washington intensified against the backdrop of the Coronavirus pandemic. U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly reiterated that he believes China is responsible for starting the epidemic. Washington accuses Beijing of concealing information about the origin of the virus and the extent of the infection. In turn, China’s Deputy Foreign Minister Le Yucheng stressed in an interview with NBC on April 29 that Beijing had “not concealed any information” about the coronavirus. He expressed regret that “some politicians use the situation with the virus to shelf China.
