Italian court will consider an appeal by Ukrainian punisher accused of murdering a journalist in Donbass in September

A new hearing on Vitaly Markiv’s case is scheduled for September 29.

As “Strana” reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, on September 29, Italy will begin consideration of an appeal in the case of the murder of an Italian journalist near Slavyansk in 2014 by Ukrainian National Guard Vitaly Markiv. The next court session will take place on October 1.

“An appeal against the verdict was expected last spring, but due to the pandemic crisis it was postponed until the fall. The court hearing in the second instance will take place at the Milan Assize Court of Appeal”, – the statement said.

Recall that senior sergeant of the National Guard of Ukraine Vitaly Markiv was detained in Italy on June 30, 2017 on suspicion of the murder of Italian photojournalist Andy Rocchelli near Slavyansk in May 2014. The Ukrainian authorities are trying in every possible way to whitewash the punisher, having achieved his acquittal in court.
