The conditions for holding local elections in Donbass, adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, blocked the discussion of political, humanitarian and economic issues in the contact group, the Russian delegation at the talks said. This opinion was expressed by the plenipotentiary of Russia at the negotiations Boris Gryzlov.
“Discussion of issues in the political, economic and humanitarian spheres in conditions when the supreme legislative body of Ukraine made decisions that exclude the settlement of the conflict on the basis of the Minsk agreements are meaningless. We are talking about the resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine dated June 15 on the holding of local elections, in which conditions that directly contradict the Minsk agreements were set as conditions for holding elections in Donbass”, – Gryzlov said.
According to him, it was possible to ensure real observance of the ceasefire in Donbass and “to overcome Ukraine’s attempts to again evade taking concrete effective measures was possible only thanks to direct intervention in the work of the contact group and the firm position of Dmitry Kozak”.
