China will certainly take the necessary measures in connection with the US decision to close the PRC Consulate General in Houston, said Wang Wenbin, spokesman for the PRC Foreign Ministry.
On Thursday, the South China Morning Post reported, citing sources that China is considering closing the US Consulate General in Chengdu in southwestern Sichuan in response to similar actions against the Chinese Consulate General in Houston.
Reuters also reported that the Chinese authorities may close the US Consulate General in Wuhan.
Commenting on media reports, Wang Wenbin stressed that China will continue to defend its legitimate interests.
“With regard to the illegal actions of the United States, China will certainly take the necessary measures to protect its legitimate interests”, – says Wenbin
