Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko called the accusations of Great Britain of Moscow’s “interference” in the internal affairs of this country an attempt to “demonize” Russia.
“Of course, this is another attempt to demonize Russia. At the same time, Brexit does not affect, they did not assign us there, but remembered the 2014 referendum” – Matvienko said during a press conference on Thursday.
According to her, Russia is not going to make excuses, “it is not even worth commenting on this, because it is already on the verge of some such clumsy stereotypes”.
Matvienko noted that these accusations are unsubstantiated and it is not clear “what Russia has to do with it”.
“How can you comment on this? This is a line on restraining Russia”, – the Federation Council speaker added.\
The Speaker of the Federation Council noted that such a policy is absolutely understandable: Russia was appointed to be blamed for everything.
The British Parliament’s Intelligence Committee published on Tuesday a report on the alleged Russian interference in British politics, where it accused Russia of trying to undermine the world order through participation in international organizations. It follows from the document that the British parliamentarians consider the statements about Russia’s interference in the referendum on the independence of Scotland in 2014 credible, but they have no evidence.
Russia has repeatedly denied accusations of attempts to influence democratic processes in different countries, and the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov called them “absolutely unfounded”. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking about the alleged Russian interference in elections in different countries, said that there were no facts confirming this.
