Media: police detained 34 protesters outside Netanyahu residence

They demanded the resignation of the Government of Israel against the backdrop of a crisis in the country caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Israeli police detained at least 34 protesters outside the residence of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem, which was attended by several thousand people on Wednesday night. This was reported by the newspaper The Times of Israel.

According to her, the participants of the rally after coordinating the march with the police walked in a column to the building of the Knesset (parliament), after which they returned back to the residence of the Prime Minister. Law enforcers with the help of water cannons and with the participation of mounted police began disperse the demonstrators at about 01:00 Wednesday (time coincides with Moscow), according to the publication. Clashes began, during which 34 people were detained for violence against police officers and violation of public order. Protesters demanded the resignation of the Government of Israel against the background of the developing crisis in the country caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Jerusalem Post reported that on Wednesday morning, dozens of protesters lay down on the roadway in the streets leading to the Knesset, thereby blocking all accesses to the parliament building.

“Police are on the ground and are currently working to restore order and traffic”, –  said the police press service.
