While tensions rise on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, Baku is pushing a diplomatic demarche in Washington against both Yerevan and Moscow.
Suren Sargsyan, an Armenian political scientist, director of the Center for American Studies, said this on Wednesday, July 22, commenting on the draft resolution of the US Congress on the problems of displaced persons.
The document, authored by Congressmen Stephen Shabot and Stephen Cohen, refers to Ukrainian, Georgian, Moldovan and Azerbaijani refugees.
At the same time, Sargsyan drew attention to the fact that the Armenian refugees were ignored in the US House of Representatives after the pogroms in Sumgait and Baku. The political scientist calls the document “the most anti-Armenian” in the entire American history. In addition, he stresses, the resolution has a pronounced anti-Russian character. Thus, the congressmen refer to the situation in Georgia and Ukraine.
The expert claims that the resolution is being promoted at the expense of the finances of the Azerbaijani embassy. He did not rule out that the real authors of the document are also employees of the diplomatic mission.
“Azerbaijan paid for the approval of this resolution in order to strike at Russian interests through us [Armenia],” Sargsyan said, adding that he has enough evidence that he is ready to provide to the Armenian authorities with a view to transferring it to Moscow.
