London “adheres to double standards” in matters relating to Xinjiang, the statement stresses.
The official statements by the British side about “infringement of the rights of national minorities” in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in northwest China and its intention to use this as a pretext for imposing sanctions is evidence of its hostility towards Beijing. The Chinese embassy in London published such a statement on Tuesday.
“Politicians of Great Britain and other individual Western countries do not pay attention to the success in the socio-economic development of Xinjiang, to the correct and legitimate actions of the Chinese authorities to combat terrorism and extremism in the region”, – the press release published on the website of the diplomatic mission said. – “The big lies that are present in their statements are evidence of distorted stereotypes and hostile attitudes. Only the Chinese people have the right to talk about the human rights situation in their country”.
As stressed in the statement, London “adheres to double standards” in matters concerning Xinjiang.
“If the British side continues to disregard the facts and exert sanctions on individuals and organizations in China, we will be forced to take strong countermeasures”, – it specifies.
Earlier British Foreign Secretary Dominique Raab and some members of Parliament of that country criticized China for “human rights violations” in Xinjiang. One of the accusations that provoked a particularly negative reaction from the Chinese authorities was the allegation of “violent birth control” among the Uighurs, a national minority that professes Islam. Some British politicians proposed sanctions in this regard.
