A Muslim police officer in the UK does not like the use of “stereotypical” and “discriminatory” language when describing terrorist attacks.
They demand that the “incorrect” terms “jihadist” and “Islamist” be replaced with neutral “terrorist by religious convictions” and “follower of the ideology of Osama bin Laden.”
This issue was taken up by the National Association of Muslim Police, which has about 3 thousand members.
“Cultural change requires that we move away from using terms that are directly related to Islam and Jihad. This is not conducive to improving relations with the Muslim community and strengthening public confidence in general, ” the association said.
However, some consider such a proposal unacceptable. Opponents of this idea argue that “there is a serious problem with Islamist terrorism, and the use of terms that hide this fact threatens the police with the loss of citizens’ confidence.”
