“Punish and deny entry”: Lithuania proposes to impose sanctions against the authorities of Belarus

Lithuanian parliamentarians are suddenly concerned about the fate of the Belarusian opposition.

According to the website Delfi.lt, according to the Lithuanian media, the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on European Affairs Gediminas Kirkilas, together with the conservative opposition leader Gabrielus Landsbergis, proposed introducing national sanctions against representatives of the Belarusian authorities as punishment for their actions against the opposition.

“We ask you to initiate the procedures necessary to determine the persons responsible for the persecution of the Belarusian democratic opposition, independent media and civil society activists and the organization of repressions against them, and then add them to the list of persons who are prohibited from entering the Republic of Lithuania”, – the parliamentarians wrote, addressing to the ministers of foreign and internal affairs of Lithuania.

Lithuanian “fighters against the Lukashenko regime” managed to add to their demand the American “Magnitsky law”, which deals with sanctions against Russian officials, whom the West blames for the death of a scandalous businessman. In their opinion, with such actions Lithuania will be able to demonstrate to the world community that it is also fighting “for all good against all bad”.
