The UN says the world needs a "New Global Compact"

According to TASS, delivering a lecture dedicated to the memory of Nelson Mandela, UN Secretary General António Guterres proposed to the world a large-scale initiative to fight inequality – the New Global Compact, which aims to create a fairer world order on the planet.

“The coronavirus pandemic has revealed a sad gap between self-interest and public interest, as well as huge gaps in governance structures and ethical frameworks,” said the secretary general. “To close these gaps and make a new social contract possible, we need a new global compact that provides and fair distribution of power, wealth and opportunities at the international level “

Guterres noted that the old model of the social contract in the modern world has actually ceased to work.
