Merkel: In a meeting to negotiate spending, EU leaders were deeply divided

European Union leaders are facing very tough negotiations on the proposed budget and recovery plan to bring the block out of the economic crisis caused by the Coronavirus pandemic, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Friday, pointing to deep divisions.

“We are all negotiating with great energy, but I have to say that the differences are still very, very big and so I can’t yet say if we can find a solution this time”, –  Merkel said when she arrived at the top.

“I expect very, very difficult negotiations.”
