Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that the Azerbaijani people are tired of senseless negotiations on the settlement of the Karabakh conflict, in his words, the mediators must understand this.
“The Azerbaijani people are tired of these senseless negotiations. Therefore, let those who are dealing with this issue and putting forward their mediation proposals these days think about it, the patience of the Azerbaijani people is not infinite <…> The territorial integrity of Azerbaijan must be restored, and our opinion on this issue is ultimate”, -Aliyev said at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers dedicated to the socio-economic development of Azerbaijan in the first half of this year, quoted by the Azertadzh State Agency.
The President of Azerbaijan also said that “he does not advise anyone to outpace of the events in Azerbaijan”.
“This is not necessary. It can harm. We know what, when and how to do”, – Aliyev said.
The conflict in Karabakh began in February 1988, when the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region announced its secession from the Azerbaijan SSR. During the armed confrontation in 1992-1994, Azerbaijan lost control over Nagorno-Karabakh and the seven adjacent regions. Since 1992, negotiations have been underway on a peaceful settlement of the conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group, headed by three co-chairs – Russia, the United States and France.
