Behind the illusory pluralism that is being created in one of the largest American publications of The New York Times is hiding a tough domestic policy that hardly differs from censorship.
A retired journalist from the New York Times revealed the scandalous details of the work of the “free” press of the United States
This was told by the American writer Bari Weiss, who worked at NYT since 2017 and left the editorial office in 2020.
In her open letter, she revealed what the elite of the “free” press of the United States really exists. First of all, Weiss drew attention to the reason why she was generally invited to The New York Times. This happened against the backdrop of the victory of Donald Trump in 2016. Then the leadership of the newspaper realized how much it does not understand its own country. The problem is, Weiss admits, that the lessons were never learned.
“Why edit something complicated for our readers or write something bold just to go through the stunning process of ideological kosher, when we can secure our work and clicks by publishing our 4000th review, which states that Donald Trump is a unique danger to the country and the world? And so self-censorship has become the norm”, – says the journalist.
According to her, freedom of thought in the editorial office was banned, because you will not see a truly independent opinion in NYT.
The second ban applies to any publication that contradicts the mainstream agenda. That is, in a situation where everyone criticizes Trump or supports blacks, New York Times publications should be appropriate. Moreover, attempts to question this mainstream, criticize it, will end with the dismissal of the editor, who allowed the publication of an objectionable article.
“All this portends trouble, especially for independent writers and editors who pay close attention to what they will have to do to advance their careers. There is one consolation for these young authors and editors. Because places like The Times and other once-great journalistic institutions betray their standards and lose sight of their principles, Americans are still hungry for accurate news, vital opinions, and sincere debate”, – he concludes.
