Pompeo said the US needs Russia’s support in Afghanistan

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said he has informed his Russian colleagues that Washington needs Moscow’s support in a settlement in Afghanistan.

“We made it clear to the Russians that we need their support in this effort (to settle Afghanistan)… We made it clear to them that we must work together to have a sovereign, independent and peaceful Afghanistan. I think it is in the interests of Russia, China, for the Afghans”, –  Pompeo said at a video conference organized by The Hill.

The secretary of state was asked if he had recently discussed with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reports that Russia allegedly offered the Afghan Taliban rewards for attacks on American soldiers.

“Yes, of course. I talked a lot with my Russian partners, I talked a lot with my Russian intelligence partners when I was a CIA director”, –  Pompeo replied without specifying whether he had discussed these particular publications.
