Over 250 detentions. Criminal proceedings instituted in Minsk over rallies

The Belarussian IC began a criminal case due to mass protests in Minsk, more than 250 people were detained for disturbing public order.

On Tuesday evening, unauthorized protests took place in different cities of Belarus, caused by the refusal of registration to presidential candidates Viktor Babariko and Valery Tsepkalo.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus reported on mass detentions in various cities of the country due to disturbances in public order, most of all in Minsk – 190 people, more than 250 protesters were detained. Some of the detainees were released after drawing up administrative protocols and conducting preventive interviews, the department said.

“The actions of the police, especially the riot police and the traffic police, were coherent and clear. Despite the aggression of individual citizens, they showed restraint and high professionalism”, – the Interior Ministry emphasized.

The Belarussian IC began a criminal case on the fact of “organizing and actively participating in group actions that grossly violate public order in the territory of Minsk”, associated with disobedience to the requirements of law enforcement officials.
