In Britain, a statue of a black protester was erected at the site of a monument to a philanthropist

A statue of a black woman with her right hand raised to the sky was erected on the pedestal where the monument to Edward Colston, a philanthropist and member of the British Parliament, used to stand.

The incident took place in British Bristol. The Statue of Colston was demolished by vandals as early as June 7, dropping it in the local harbor. To keep the pedestal from empty, the artist Mark Quinn created a life-size statue of Jan Reed. A black woman participated in protests against whites.

Reed herself confessed that she was proud that her statue was replaced by a monument to a famous British benefactor, who, like many others, was accused of racism and slavery.

“It was as if she was always standing there”, –  added the woman.
