The U.S. has closed five military bases in Afghanistan as part of a peace agreement between Washington and the radical Taliban movement. This was reported by an American official on Tuesday to TOLOnews TV channel.
According to him, U.S. bases were closed in Helmand, Uruzgan, Paktika and Laghman provinces.
A peace agreement between the US and the Taliban was signed in Doha on February 29. Inter-Afghan consultations were to begin March 10, according to the agreements. By the time they were launched, it was agreed that up to 5,000 supporters of the movement and up to 1,000 people held by radicals would be released as part of confidence-building measures.
