The American media is writing about what to learn from Russia in a pandemic

Although little is said about this in the West, Russia is one of the world leaders in terms of coronavirus testing. In addition, local experts are close to producing their own vaccine.

The American edition of Newsweek writes about it.

The publication notes that the Russian reaction to the spread of the deadly virus has often been criticized, although in reality Russia can be set an example for other countries.

For example, Russia, together with Japan, quickly developed a system to detect COVID-19. Its peculiarity is that the test result can be known in only 30 minutes. For comparison, in other tests you have to wait up to 2.5 hours. However, the speed does not affect the accuracy. Such tests have already helped to prevent large-scale disease outbreaks in large Russian cities, and in the future they can help to restart the global economy. International air travel is given as an example.

“Instead of spending 24 hours in mandatory quarantine in Athens, travelers can go directly to the Greek islands soon after a 30-minute wait”, –  the material says.

Russia has also succeeded in developing medical products. The publication notes that Russian specialists have focused on proven antiviral drugs, improving them. For example, Avifavir was developed on the basis of Japanese Avigan. Scientists have found that the effective dose against coronavirus should be higher than in the case of influenza treatment. Therefore, the substance was further refined to increase the dosage without side effects.

While the U.S. is buying up Remdesivir, the Russian drug has already entered the world market. Only Belarus and Kazakhstan buy it, but also Colombia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Peru and other countries.

Vaccines against coronavirus are also being developed in Russia, with emphasis on adenovirus drugs. It is predicted that such a vaccine will be the first approved in the market, and in September. All thanks to the fact that the vaccines based on the adenoviral vector were created back in the 80s of last century. In particular, such vaccines are used against the Ebola virus with a high degree of safety.

In addition, the Russian vaccine will be supplied with a unique patented test that identifies the increase in antibodies. In this way, the effectiveness of the vaccine will be easily measured.
