Due to the fact that the authorities of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia openly encroach on freedom of speech, the Russian Federation Council insists on the imposition of sanctions.
This is mentioned in a statement by the interim Federation Council on information policy and media relations.
Legislators turned to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the background of the ban on broadcasting the Russia Today TV channel in Lithuania.
“The Interim Commission of the Federation Council on Information Policy and Media Relations calls on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and other executive authorities of the Russian Federation, within its competence, to explore the possibility of introducing reciprocal political and other measures against the authorities of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, grossly violating the principles of freedom of speech and dissemination of information, as well as its obligations to international organizations”, – the commission said.
