The Russian Foreign Ministry has called the statements of U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Russia’s vote in the UN Security Council on Syria another attempt to twist the facts for the benefit of narrow-minded interests.
Earlier, Pompeo called on the countries of the world to punish Russia and China for their veto during the voting in the UN Security Council on the draft resolution of Belgium and Germany, which extends the work of the two border crossings (“Bab al-Hawa” and “Bab el Salam”) on the border between Syria and Turkey to deliver cross-border humanitarian aid to the SAR. The mandate of the BCP expires on 10 July.
“In Moscow, we are disappointed how U.S. Secretary of State Pompeo allowed himself to comment on the UNSC discussions in connection with the draft resolution on the cross-border mechanism for the delivery of humanitarian assistance in the checkpoint. There is another attempt to twist the facts and distort the reality to suit his own narrow-minded political interests” , – the agency comments…
“As for the ‘cross-border’ mechanism, we have no objection to its extension. But we consider it necessary to bring it in line with the real situation “on the ground,” primarily in Idlib, and avoid a situation where it would interfere with the establishment of humanitarian supplies from the interior of the country, through the lines of contact”, – said the Russian Foreign Ministry.
As emphasized in the Foreign Ministry, Moscow has advocated and is in favor of increasing humanitarian assistance to all Syrians in need throughout Syria with the agreement of the recipient government.
“It is this circumstance … that is perceived “in bayonets” by Western countries. And only confirms that they are not interested in helping those in need, their only aspiration is to use humanitarian assistance as a tool to undermine the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the checkpoint”, – the commentary says.
The Russian Foreign Ministry also noted with regret that the U.S. and its like-minded people have succeeded in manipulating purely humanitarian structures “in servicing a political order to replace the authority in the checkpoint.
