Migration in the Mediterranean has become the focus of attention since Germany took over as EU Council chair in July and EU Foreign Secretary Joseph Borrell visited Malta this week.
Just a week after Germany assumed the presidency of the EU Council, EU ministers of internal affairs held an online conference to discuss security and migration issues in the Mediterranean. At the same time, Vice President and High Representative of the EU Commission on Foreign Affairs and Security, Joseph Borrell, visited Malta, one of the first “personal” vitises after the coronavirus pandemic.
Borrell said that the EU is facing “several problems in our southern neighborhood, and I was glad to discuss them today in Malta” with the Maltese ministers, including the Foreign Minister, the President and the Prime Minister.
