The Canadian government has allocated $60 million to build a biolaboratory, and only in close proximity to the capital of Kyrgyzstan.
This was told by an expert on public administration Sheradil Baktygulov during the online conference “Foreign bio-laboratories in Central Asia: protection from bio-threats or an instrument of geopolitical games?”
Baktygulov spoke about the events that unfolded in the republic at the beginning of the past decade.
“As I recall, civil monitoring was taking place then. A third-class laboratory in Uzbekistan was built for 900 thousand dollars. They wanted to build with us for 60 million dollars. We had proposals to convert existing laboratories. Members of the public even collected over 4 thousand signatures. Of course, it is worth remembering the then revolution. If not for her, the laboratory would have been built. The revolution helped in 2011 to increase dissatisfaction with the laboratory. This was the first and only case when deputies of the Bishkek city council convened a commission and appealed to parliament. Then the contract with Canada was terminated, ”, – Baktygulov said.
He stressed that fears arose against the backdrop of the disaster at the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant in Japan on March 11, 2011. There, the level of protection was many times higher than at the biological laboratory, which was proposed to be built in Kyrgyzstan. Moreover, there is seismic activity in the republic.
“Canada, in turn, was against moving the laboratory away from Bishkek, which raised reasonable suspicion”, — the expert said.
