Inside the truck there were 144 people from Bangladesh and 67 from Pakistan. Among them were 63 minors.

In Northern Macedonia, during a check on a regional road in a truck near the southern border with Greece, 211 migrants were found, including 63 minors. It is reported by the Associated Press, on Wednesday, July 8.

The border patrol stopped the truck around midnight on Monday near the city of Gevgelia and found that it was literally “packed” with migrants. Inside were 144 people from Bangladesh and 67 from Pakistan.

The truck driver, a 27-year-old citizen of Northern Macedonia, was arrested. Migrants were detained and transferred to a transit center in Gevgeliya, they are expected to be deported to Greece.

The agency points out that the Greek border from Northern Macedonia has been closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, but migrant trafficking networks remain active in the area. Smugglers transfer migrants from Turkey to Greece and then head north to richer countries.

Earlier, dozens of refugees drowned in Turkey. According to police estimates, 55 to 60 migrants were in the boat that sank during a storm on Lake Van.
