The European Union intends to introduce measures to tighten control over US companies, including Google, Amazon and Facebook. This was stated by Deputy Commissioner Margrethe Westager in an interview with The Wall Street Journal on Sunday July 5.
In particular, the EU wants to ensure that US companies comply with antitrust laws and pay all taxes.
“This is a whole range of issues. It is not covered by just one legislative act,” Westager said.
She also noted the need to comply with competition laws and develop new standards in the antitrust area.
“Companies should be responsible for publishing prohibited materials on their network resources,” the European Commission representative said.
