“All anti-racists! What’s next?”: New York Times tells why American riot is doomed to failure

In desperate attempts to make up for years of denial of racism, the Americans rushed to support the blacks. Only loud statements on social networks will not change anything.

“All anti-racists! What's next?": New York Times tells why American riot is doomed to failure

This is stated in the article of the American publication “The New York Times” entitled “All anti-racists! What’s next?”.

The popularity of anti-racist sentiment in the media is compared to the “breakthrough of the dam”. It might seem that now in the USA there will come equality, and blacks will never be put lower than whites again. Such an end to the protest is an excellent end to the tale, but in reality this will not happen, the article says.

“Recognizing that black people have the same meaning as all other Americans means only recognizing that has always been true. Accepting blackness as a value and virtue is the foundation of progress, but not progress itself, ”says NYT.

Between today’s ostentatious enthusiasm and the ultimate goal is “a million actions that must be carried out at once to correct systemic racism”. And here in the publication they ask whether America can change at all?

“History and culture are against it. Another of our great national dependencies is comfort, caused by the unique American expectation that the things necessary for everyday life will be cheap, light and painless. Racism is a form of comfort in the sense that it is designed to make life easier for its beneficiaries, ”the publication explains.

Even now, when monuments to the figures of the Confederation are demolished in the United States, it is only a small fraction of the first step. At the same time, real problems are hiding at the political, legal and social levels. This means that the United States needs major changes, and not a sign on the lawn near the house with a statement supporting the Black Lives Matter movement.
