On Monday, 180 migrants on the Ocean Viking relief ship will arrive in Porto Empedocles, where they will be transferred to another ship, Moby Zaza, and quarantined.
Prior to their arrival, they will all be checked for coronavirus.
Migrants were rescued by the French non-governmental organization SOS Méditerranée from June 25 to 30.
Among them, 25 children and a pregnant woman.
The Italian government sent the doctor to the ship on Saturday after an NGO reported episodes of serious unrest, including suicide attempts and threats to the crew of the ship, which necessitated the immediate evacuation of 44 people due to “acute psychological disorders”.
