Berlin metro station will be renamed in honor of the Russian composer due to anti-racist outburst

The name of one of the Berlin metro stations was recognized as racist.

This was reported by the publication Der Tagesspiegel, citing information from the capital’s transport company BVG.

Now it is called “Mohrenstraße”, however, the word “Mohren” is an obsolete designation of black people. The station was named so due to the fact that in the past slaves brought from Africa were brought to this area.

In this regard, the station will be given the name of a neighboring street named after the Russian composer Mikhail Glinka, who died in Berlin.
