The US administration should be prepared to exclude Russia from the SWIFT society of worldwide interbank financial communication channels and introduce an oil embargo.
This was told by ex-US ambassador to Ukraine William Taylor in a commentary to the Today publication.
According to him, Washington may introduce the “toughest” sanctions if Russia launches an attack on Ukraine from the Crimea.
“If they decided to invade Ukraine or some other country, I hope that they will introduce tough anti-Russian sanctions, led by the United States, with the support of European countries and other democracies”, – the diplomat said, adding that such measures should undermine the Russian economy.
Taylor stressed that it is important to prepare for the introduction of such restrictions as the exclusion of Russia from SWIFT, as well as the introduction of an oil embargo in its respect. He called these restrictions “painful and effective”. At the same time, he recognized that for greater efficiency, the participation of not only the United States, but also the European Union, Canada, Australia and Japan is necessary.
As News Front previously reported, Ukraine is now undergoing a large-scale anti-Russian propaganda campaign. The media is actively circulating the thesis that Russia is preparing an offensive on Ukraine from the territory of Crimea. In particular, the ex-commander of the US Armed Forces in Europe, General Ben Hodges, spoke about this. The day before, the launch of freight trains to the Crimea was dragged to this theory.
