“Total economic attack on Europe” – Bloomberg commented on the way Nord Stream-2 destroys transatlantic ties

The desire of the American leadership to sabotage one Russian project is expensive for Washington.

About this writes the agency «Bloomberg».

The article says that Donald Trump is dissatisfied with many actions of the European Union and Germany, in particular. He believes that Europe uses the United States for its business interests. At the same time, Trump wants to sell more US liquefied natural gas to the EU. Here he is prevented by the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream-2.

In December last year, the construction was suspended by a package of sanctions, and now the US Congress intends to expand restrictive measures to “kill” Nord Stream-2.

“The problem is that if this new round becomes law, it will mean a total economic attack on Europe. This can hit individuals and companies from many countries that are involved in the project, say by signing insurance or providing port services for the vessels involved”, – Bloomberg explains.

Not surprisingly, Germany now threatens to retaliate against the United States. Trump is not far behind and is preparing to unleash a full-blown trade war with the European Union.

“The transatlantic alliance, which has already crumbled, is close to breaking”, – the agency said.

At the same time, Bloomberg criticizes Berlin for ignoring its NATO partners who oppose Nord Stream-2. In addition, they drew attention to the fact that the German political forces supporting the construction of the gas pipeline “are sharply shifting to the left with the long tradition of anti-American and pro-Russian inclinations”.

The author calls Germany “an insensitive and naive ally”, while the US calls it “cruel”. The confrontation between them in the article is compared with the game “Hawks and Pigeons”. The problem is that it is not yet clear whether “opponents simulate recklessness” or “have already gone too far”.
