Breaking off ties with Russia painfully hits the port of Ventspils in Latvia

Ventspils free port already needs a 3-year delay in repayment of debts. We are talking about four loans worth 8.3 million euros. These are the consequences of the anti-Russian policy of the Latvian authorities.

This is stated in the material of the publication “Russian Spring”.

Now the port revenues have decreased, while the development of infrastructure has frozen. This was not observed when the company cooperated with Russia, but the port was nationalized in a gust of Russophobia, while the commercial port of Ust-Luga was opened in Leningrad region. That’s how the Ventspils Free Port began to have problems.

The administration expected that in 2020 it would be possible to reach a cargo turnover of 20 million tons, but the expectations were not destined to come true due to the pandemic. The state needed to support the enterprise in the conditions of the crisis, but instead, under the pretext of “optimization of human resources” they started to fire their employees.

The future fate of the port is obvious. The management will take a loan from the state to pay off old debts. They will not be able to pay the state anymore. As a result, the company’s property will be sold for a fraction of the price, and the port will cease to exist.
