Uzbekistan: terrorists detained in the group responsible for the explosion in St. Petersburg

In Uzbekistan, law enforcement authorities detained 11 people who were suspected of involvement in a metro bombing in St. Petersburg in 2017.

 

Detainees may be members of the Katiba Tawhid Wal Jihad* terrorist group, which is responsible for the attack.

“In the course of joint operational actions, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Security Service of Uzbekistan on June 30 exposed the illegal activities of a group of adherents of the international terrorist organization Tavhid va jihod katibashi (the Uzbek name of the group – ed.), Operating underground in Tashkent”, – the statement said.

The detainees were about to leave for Syria and take part in hostilities on the side of the terrorists.
