The Pentagon said that the US President Donald Trump has approved a plan to withdraw from Germany 9.5 thousand US troops, they will be redeployed to “deter Russia”.
The corresponding statement was made by the official representative of the US military, Jonathan Hoffman.
“The Minister of Defense and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff yesterday informed the president about plans to redeploy 9,500 troops from Germany. The proposal, which was approved, not only complies with the president’s directive, it will also strengthen Russian containment, give assurances to the allies, improve strategic flexibility and operational flexibility of the United States in Europe”, – RIA Novosti quoted Hoffman as saying.
Earlier, Bloomberg, citing a source, reported that Trump will withdraw from Germany about 9.5 thousand troops by September due to tensions with Chancellor Angela Merkel over German military spending.
