British rock band The Rolling Stones may file a lawsuit against U.S. President Donald Trump if he continues to use her songs at his election rallies, the BBC reported citing the group’s lawyers.
Representatives of the musicians noted that together with the organization to protect the rights of performers Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) are trying to stop Trump’s illegal use of The Rolling Stones, explaining that “further steps” were required as previous instructions were ignored.
The statement said that BMI had infored Trump that using the band’s songs without permission would be in violation of his license agreement and could be subject to legal proceedings.
Both in 2016 and 2020 Trump’s campaign rallies included the hit The Rolling Stones “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”, including its last rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Trump’s winning speech ended with the same composition after the announcement of the results of the presidential election in 2016.
The Rolling Stones repeatedly stated that it did not support Trump and asked him to stop using his band’s songs in his campaign.
