US Navy Commander Europe and Africa Admiral James Foggo became worried about Russian submarine activity in the Mediterranean. His words are quoted by Stars and Stripes.

He noted that modern quiet diesel submarines of Russia are equipped with the Caliber strike missile system, which is capable of hitting “any capital of Europe or Africa.” Foggo concluded that this was an occasion to expand the American presence in Europe.

“This indicates the need for a permanent, highly efficient marine presence in European waters,” he said.

The admiral also said that Russian submarines in the Crimea and Syrian Tartus significantly strengthen the position of Moscow.

According to him, the United States needs to develop a new strategy that will allow the Pentagon to move forward in the context of an “increasingly complex geostrategic landscape.”
