Countries also call on foreign participants to end any interference and fully comply with the arms embargoes
France, Germany and Italy have called on the parties to the conflict in Libya and foreign players operating there to immediately cease hostilities on the territory of the State. This was stated in a joint statement issued on Thursday by the foreign ministries of the three countries.
“Faced with the growing threat of deteriorating situation in Libya and regional escalation, France, Germany and Italy call on all parties to the Libyan conflict to immediately and unconditionally cease hostilities and suspend the build-up of military forces throughout the country”, – the statement says.
The countries also call on foreign parties to put an end to any interference and fully respect the arms embargo previously imposed by the United Nations Security Council. The three ministries welcome the rapid conclusion of negotiations in the 5+5 military committee (five representatives from each side) under the auspices of the UN Support Mission in Libya aimed at reaching a ceasefire agreement.
The statement said the cessation of hostilities “is an important element for creating the conditions necessary for the effective resumption of inter-Libyan political dialogue, which will ensure a long-term solution to the conflict.
