The US President Donald Trump has once again criticized Germany for “paying Russia billions of dollars to buy energy from it”. Trump made a corresponding statement at the end of negotiations with Polish President Andrzej Duda on Wednesday, June 24, in Washington.
The US is opposed to the construction of the Nord Stream-2 pipeline, which will double the volume of gas supplied directly from Russia to Germany and reduce the volume of pumped gas through Ukraine.
When asked what signal Washington sends to Russia, withdrawing part of its troops from Germany and intending to relocate some of them to Poland, Donald Trump called this decision a “very strong signal” to Moscow.
The American president added that the United States is currently working with Russia on nuclear arms control and possible further reductions.
“We are now working with Russia on a weapons agreement, and this is a big deal, in particular on nuclear weapons… I think I can say that things are going very well in this regard. Both countries want this to happen”, – Trump believes.
Russian-American consultations on strategic stability were held behind closed doors on June 22 in Vienna and lasted about 10 hours. The Russian delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Ryabkov, the American – by the Special Representative of the US President for Arms Control Marshall Billingsley.
