Western politicians know who started the Great Patriotic War and who “finished off the fascist reptile in its den,” but they are promoting another idea in the educational environment and in the media, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
“Of course, the politicians in the West know everything very well. Don’t they know that it was not the Soviet Union that attacked Nazi Germany, but fascist Germany that attacked the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941? Everyone knows it. Don’t they know who finished off the fascist reptile in its den, who took Berlin by storm? They know, of course. But they don’t write it in textbooks”, – Putin said at a meeting with the new composition of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation.
According to the Russian leader, another idea is being promoted in Western media.
“Is it is unknown who carried out nuclear attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki? It is known. But what do they say in the Japanese textbooks? Allies. What allies? The allies did not have any nuclear weapons. Only the United States had it. But now, you see, they gradually, step by step, wash out what they don’t like”, – the President said.
This, according to the head of state, is because Western countries are trying to build “today’s relations in their own interests”.
“Unfortunately, they don’t learn anything. There is no desire to build a system of international security in the interests of the whole world and taking into account the interests of all participants in international activity. But knowing this, we must seek the truth about World War II in order to build our policy in such a way that it ensures interests of the Russian state. And, of course, so that no one dares to dirty the memory of our heroes who bear the brunt of the Great Patriotic War and make a decisive contribution to the victory over Nazism in the entire World War II”, – Putin added.
